Manchester Women’s Aid

Empowering change with Manchester Women’s Aid website design

Manchester Women’s Aid is a vital organisation dedicated to supporting women, children, and communities impacted by domestic abuse.

Their mission to provide high-quality, user-centred services required a digital platform that was not only informative but also immediately accessible to those in urgent need of help. Understanding the sensitive nature of their work, we were entrusted with redesigning their website to ensure it effectively delivers critical support to those who need it most.

OUR APPROACH

Discovery + Empathy

The project began with an in-depth discovery workshop where we worked closely with the Manchester Women’s Aid team to uncover key aspects of their brand, user personas, and service offerings.

Understanding the emotional and psychological states of their users was critical. Through empathy mapping, we identified the barriers victims of domestic abuse face when seeking help online. This allowed us to design a site that prioritises user safety, ease of access, and confidentiality.

OUR APPROACH

Design Iteration

Using Figma, we developed a set of interactive wireframes that laid out a user-friendly, intuitive interface. A particular focus was placed on creating clear pathways to immediate support services, such as helplines and emergency resources.

The design process included refining the look and feel of the homepage to ensure that it conveyed a sense of safety, trust, and empowerment.

OUR APPROACH

Development and Launch

Once the designs were finalised, we moved into development, utilising Craft CMS for its flexibility and powerful features. The website was built to be fully responsive, ensuring that users can access help whether they’re on a desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

We incorporated security features to protect user privacy, such as quick exit buttons and discrete design elements, which are crucial for the safety of those in abusive environments.

OUR APPROACH

User-Centred UX

The user experience (UX) was at the heart of this project. We focused on creating a streamlined journey that allows users to find help quickly and without unnecessary navigation.

Essential information, such as contact details for emergency services and links to support, is prominently displayed. The website also includes educational resources and guidance for those supporting loved ones experiencing domestic abuse.

From early on, I had a gut feeling it had to be Subism! Your design was a cut above but also the team's approachability was a massive plus in your favour. The resulting site is amazing - so user-friendly and welcoming.
